Our mission at the Lykes Scholarship Fund is to uplift underprivledged youth by providing essential financial support for continuing education, specifically to children served through the Children at Heart Ministries family of services- empowering them to pursue brighter futures through learning.

How It Started
The Lykes Scholarship Fund was established in December 2011 by David and Elaine Lykes, whose longstanding compassion for widows and children in need has deeply shaped their philanthropic efforts.
David experienced significant hardship during his childhood. His family lived in poverty, and his mother struggled with mental health challenges. After his father abandonded his mother, she was left to care for six children without any marketable skills. These formative experiences instilled in David and Elaine a profound and enduring commitment to helping those in need.
Their journey with the Texas Baptist Children’s Home began through a friend who served on its board. David was invited to join the board himself, and their dedication to the organization grew steadily. Over time, David served on three different boards, and together, he and Elaine made substantial financial contributions, including funding the renovation of two cottages.
